Five days and counting. My best friend in the whoooooooole world is now on the road, westward-bound and should show up at my doorstep in less than a week. What can I say...I'm really excited! I've been waiting for this day for...god, probably three years now?
It's a big step for the guy...but he's a big boy with big paws. He'll be okay.

on the go 'roo And now I got that phone thingie and am using it for non-phone related uses...like writing this LJ post.
If you haven't sent me your number, g'head and gimmie if you think I should have it. Again, if you're weird of creepy...well, just don't be weird and creepy.
Comments screened, of course.

iRoo So I'm one of the idiots waiting in line for one of them there newfangled Apple phone-type thingies. Hope it's as juicy as it sounds.
This is a perfect opportunity to send me your cellphone number if you want me to have it. I can't promise I'll return the favor (You might be some creepy pawslut stalker or something), but you never know...you might get a buzz from me in confirmation.
Just comment with your phone number. The comments field will be screened so no creepy people will see it...I think.

I moved! I know that this is the big con week and that the eyeballs to this journal post will be fewer than normal. But I just wanted to post a note to say...
I have a new home! Physical home that is. Big enough to house a giant roo, that's for sure.
Myself, theottsel, and a special guest star to be named later will be living together under one roof. I spent all weekend scooping up armfuls of stuff and carting it down the road, so I'm very tired.
If you would like my mailing address to wish us well with all sorts of wonderful and expensive housewarming gifts, please private message me. If I trust you, I will let you in on my location. If I think you're a creepy stalker, you probably won't get it. No offense. Okay, offense.
Either way, we love wonderful and expensive housewarming gifts. Emphasis on expensive.

Gone but not really. "Scheduled maintenance" has given me ten minutes to put something up here.
My vacation starts now. But, through the miracle of the internets, you'll never even notice I've left. Unless, of course, you're on the east coast...if so, that means you'll be seeing more of me. In theory, anyway.
If I don't see you, I just want to say Merry Christmas to all the awesome folk reading this. It's not something I can enjoy without friends, and thankfully I've got a whole lot of you out there to call "friend". Thanks for being awesome and making the holidays worth celebrating!
Wawa, Dunkin Donuts, Chik Fil A...here I come!

Now that it's Thanksgiving, It's never too early for Christmas. I had an absolute blast at Midwest Furfest last week. I probably clocked eight hours of fursuiting time, much to the chagrin of some people who voiced a concern about green 'roo overexposure this weekend. But hey... ozkangaroo built an awesome suit, and I'm going to get as much mileage out of it as I can, dammit.
I wanted to go one step further at his second official convention. I've always loved Christmas...and a picture that spunkywulf drew for me as a holiday gift a few years back told me that Duncan would look fab in a santa suit.
Am I wrong?

Roo-B-Con (RooBQ, Big Green 'Roo BBQ) All right! Now my birthday report! Once again, each birthday gets better than the last, which really goes against the grain of getting older...or so I'm told. And once again, I don't care about hiding all this behind cuts. Deal with it.
This was a pinnacle year as I'm now officially "old" according to marketting departments, but my friends didn't disappoint making it a helluva send-off.
About a month ago I organized a gathering up at a state park near where I live for my birthday, September 30th. I've never thrown a party before, and I've really never had a real birthday party for myself that involved more than just a handful of family and friends. So, I was nervous about it, mostly whether anyone would actually come.
After a small scare (I scheduled it for 12 but apart from a theottsel and kitelessd, people didn't start showing up until 12:30), the party grew and grew and grew until it was about 30 people big! Woo! Success! I would love to list everyone but I fear I'm going to forget someone so I'll just say that LOTS of my friends showed up, and I really, really appreciate every single one that did.
At about 2:30 I decided to let Duncan out. Kiteless had a friend bring by a tent for changing just in case any fursuiters showed up. Unfortunately, there was a Critters by the Bay thing going on at the same time so a big suit gathering didn't happen. But Kiteless brought out Cirrus for company.
Because this was a public picnic area, there were two other largish picnics going on, both with a significant amount of kids. I couldn't resist. After gauging the reaction of one of the picnics, I cautiously made my way over for the hellos. The kids loved it. We played volleyball and catch, some of the parents brought out the camera to snap pictures.
After about an hour of picnic torment, we decided to head up to a more picturesque area for some fun photos.
Upon return, it was time to put Duncan away and rejoin the party. I went to get a snack, and that's when two police officers showed up. I had a gut feeling about why they showed up, so I decided to introduce myself as the party head.
As the cop put it, there was a complaint that "a green kangaroo was acting strange around their child." He asked who the kangaroo was, I casually confirmed that it was me, what the suit is, that it was my birthday. He radioed back an "all clear" that sounded something like "Something-somthing green kangaroo something." We both laughed, he asked for my ID -- probably to check and see if the "birthday" claim was truthful -- and I shook his hand, thanked him for being cool...and he wished me a happy birthday.
Throughout the day, artistic friends doodled on a giant piece of paper I so shamelessly laid out on one of the picnic tables. I was incredibly happy to see it all filled out with fun roo doodles.

Over the course of the days before and after my birthday, close friends and random fans of Duncan alike surprised me, again, with gift art...which always thrills me to death.
Thank you guys so much.
And I also came home to find out someone had sent me a virtual cupcake AND my LiveJournal was anonymously upgraded for another year! That was a neat surprise...and much appreciated, especially since it was to expire this month. Earlier in the week I got a HEAVY package from astor_apatosaur with an oversized Wawa t-shirt, a perfectly Duncan scale Wawa truck and a Dunkin Donuts coffee mug! And bigtigknows his alcohol...12 year old rum? Jack Sparrow, hands off!
Of course, out of everything, this will be my trophy for this year's birthday:

It's not a party until the police arrive. Happy birthday to me!
Details later, but this is FUCKING awesome.
Partying kangaroo sparks police.

Sorry, Kiteless...they thought you were a cow.

Transform, baby. Michael Bay, you are so over the top, but that's exactly what we want out of a movie about talking, transforming robots.
Very rarely do I use the word "giddy" in describing my emotions, but man...when the Autobots arrived in frame to the swelling orchestral score...damn it, I was giddy.
Corny popcorn fun. A movie that you can easily turn off your disbelief and have a whole lot of fun.

Damn. Freakin' spot on.
</form> Mid-Atlantic. This is what everyone calls a Philadelphia accent although it's also the accent of south Jersey, Baltimore, and Wilmington. Well, everyone that lives near there, that is. Outsiders can tell you talk differently from them even though they can't tell what your accent is. Take this quiz now - it's easy!

Gadget therapy I've been feeling down and depressed the past couple of weeks, so I decided to try and feel better by spoiling myself.
I bought a new toy today.

This is exactly what I want in a cell phone: tiny and light, QWERTY keyboard for texting, and clamshell design (both ways) so it's impossible to butt dial.
There are some issues with it: tiny keys, hard to hit D-pad since it's right up against the hinge...and only one hinge holds the thing together so the two pieces sort of wibble. But I'm happy. I had to cancel a Sprint contract and go with Verizon, but the way Sprint's been treating me lately...nuts to them.
I've got the same number, so no worries. But if you think I might not already have yours, now's a good time to send it my way.

Attention San Jose area buds Just cuz I'm all the way up near San Francisco doesn't mean I'm completely out of reach. If you've got something going on, feel free to bug the 'roo...if you don't mind one tagging along, that is.
Nothing makes me feel more left out than finding out about a happening after it's over and then hearing, "boy, you should've been there."
In an area of roommates I'm in one of the rare positions of being an independent, which sort of disconnects me from "The Grapevine." And with friends living in micro communities of three, four, five, six roomies or more, it makes it difficult for me to take the initiative and spontaneously invite folks up to hang out. Especially since I don't really have a place that would make a very good centralized "hang out" location.
I'm also not one to invite myself into events that I wasn't invited into...it's sort of a mechanism built into me. The only way I know I'm welcome in a gathering is if someone actually asks me to join. I'll swallow my pride every so often and ask, "Hey, mind if I tag along?" if I hear something's going on...but, honestly, I know how it can be trying to keep parties small, and adding one more to the mix is just opening the gates of turning a intimate gathering into one that might get a little too big for comfort. So those instances of me asking are usually very slim.
I might have something going on, or I might not be able to drop what I'm doing to make the trip, but believe me when I say I appreciate the invite either way.
I guess this is just me standing with open arms going, "Hey, don't forget about me!"
(Oh, and honestly, this post isn't related to anything recent or specific, or even based on anything that happened within the community...it's just something that popped into my head. So please don't take it personally)

Rollin' Roo Now that I can romp around in a big green 'roo suit, 2007 is going to be a big year of "firsts." This weekend was my first time bowling as Duncan, and honestly, I had the time of my life.

diadexxus organized a fursuit bowling outing in Santa Clara this weekend and ozkangaroo, having returned for a brief stayover before his return to Australia, poked me to join in on the festivities. It didn't take much convincing, since I want to get as much mileage out of the suit Oz built as I can. It just isn't right keeping Duncan all stowed away for the infrequent Furry conventions I attend.
Bowling rocked. A ton of people showed up, both in and out of suit. And though I sucked beyond all comprehension due to my oversized paws unable to hold onto the ball properly, it was a lot of fun coming up with creative ways to throw one down the alley.

One of the highlights was an amazing split pick-up that unfortunately happened after the cameras were put away -- I had left the 6-7 standing on the first shot, and Oz, as Duke, came up with me on my second turn to "help" pick up the difficult split with a simultaneously rolled second ball. Completely illegal, yes...but hell, we're on the alley without bowling shoes so we can pretty much get away with anything at this point. Long story short: a cool criss-cross down the lane and the split was taken out.
As rockin' as bowling was, I think these pictures best show the fun I really had:

The kids were amazing. I did get ganged up by a mob of Asian pre-teen punks, but they were easily chased away by a scolding from one of the wranglers. Two little girls completely latched onto me, which was absolutely adorable. "Kangaroo! Smell my flower! Sing happy birthday to my sister! Wanna see my presents?"
I had so much fun I'm actually considering buying a cheap, light ball and having massive (legal) holes drilled into it for my fat paw fingers so I can actually play proper in-suit.
Thanks to diadexxus for organizing the outing and for the photos, and to aaron_raccoon for archiving many of the pictures. Oh, and happy birthday to Uck, since this was really a party for him.
